We are working with a 70 bed hospital in Cheshire which provides open and secure services specialising in Acquired Brain Injury and Autism Spectrum Conditions.
They are looking for an experienced Speciality Doctor with a special interest in ABI to join the multi-disciplinary teams and provide expert Psychiatric support.
Duties of the Post
Clinical
To be a member of the multi-disciplinary team (MDT). The post holder will be expected to participate in tam meetings and assist the team in service provision and development.
To take part in all aspects of neuropsychiatric assessment and treatment for patients with a history of ABI admitted for neuro-rehabilitation.
To provide appropriate healthcare to the patient’s physical needs and make appropriate referrals to general and surgical services.
To ensure proper communication with other involved professionals in the daily patient care, including the preparation of progress reports, CPA reports and discharge summaries.
To liaise with the Ministry of Justice, as required, regarding on going care plans and future community access for those on restriction orders.
To liaise with statutory and non-statutory agencies regarding planning patient’s aftercare plans.
To attend ward rounds on the deaf services, although no other clinical commitments are expected on these services.
To attend, as requested, Manager’s Hearings and Mental Health Review Tribunals, and preparing appropriate reports beforehand.
To participate in the non-resident on-call rota.
To categorise all patients diagnosed with an ICD-10 classification
To work in accordance with service policies and guidelines.
General
The post-holder will deputise for their absent colleagues when required for annual/study leave, or sickness cover of reasonable duration.
To undertake different duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances.
To take part in regular training events. Full support is given for CPD activities.
The post holder will be encouraged to participate in research, clinical audit, journal clubs and clinical meetings.
The post holder may be required to take part in the Hospital’s Clinical Governance Programme.
Communications/Relationships
• MDT working. The post-holder is expected to work as part of a team and contribute to the team’s work to ensure the best quality service for the patient.
• It is expected that both, other staff and patients are treated with dignity, respect and fairness.
Training
• Dr B T Monteiro, Consultant Psychiatrist is available for regular teaching/supervision about Deafness and Mental Health.
• The post holder is expected to take an active part in developing and participating in the in Hospital educational programme.
• The successful candidate will be supported in attending relevant external educational events as agreed during educational supervision.
• The post holder will be supported in maintaining Section 12 (2) approval status.
Clinical Audit and Research
• There is an established clinical audit programme in the Hospital in which the post holder will be expected to participate.
• St Mary’s Hospital is supporting, and actively involved, in research at the Neuropsychiatry Department of the University of Birmingham (functional neuroimaging of frontal lobe damage). There will be opportunities for the post holder to be actively involved in research.

• Full Registration with the G.M.C is essential.
